How to Handle conflicts in Marriage

Each of them exhibits certain traits and types of behaviors which are a product of many factors and which cannot easily be changed. The common causes of conflicts between husband and wife are the following:
1. Difference of personality- an individual has his own habits, values, attitudes, emotional responses, moods and behaviors which take time to change.
2. Sexual relationship- commonly the source of frustration and anger between husband and wife. Husbands are more demanding and aggressive in their sexual desires than the wife.
3. In-laws and other relatives- meddling of in-laws in the affairs of married couple causes conflict within the family. Relatives leaving with the couple is also a common cause of conflict.
4. Financial matters- the manner of spending, the adequacy to meet the needs of the family are source of problems.
5. Lack of communication- lack of openness of both husband and wife usually causes conflict. If only both will realize that all conflicts can be resolved through exchange of ideas and dialogues done in a civilized way,then conflicts can be minimized.
6. Authority and Responsibility- when both asserts authority over the family conflicts arise. When responsibilities are neglected problems crop out.
For marriage to last, misunderstanding and conflicts must be resolved right away and should not be allowed to develop and become a grave problem. Common methods of resolving conflicts are the following:
1. Compromise- Since both have their own individuality and personality, meeting halfway in their adjustment will lead to the solution of most of marital problems.
2. Accommodation- acceptance of the strengths and weaknesses of the other partner would surely prevent conflicts and promote cooperation to both husband and wife.
3. Communication and dialogue - the couple should realize that all disputes on this earth can be settled through dialogue and communication especially if done in a civilized way.
