HOW DO YOU READ RINGS?
Posted On Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at at 5:30 AM by JoanLook at the log. It was once a tree and has a story to tell is not in words, but in rings.
In warm months trees grow fast. In cold months they don`t the wood grows in layers.
Each year makes a layer. the saw cuts through the layers. Look at the end of the log where the saw cuts. Each layer makes a circle. It makes one ring for each. Count the rings and you will know how old the tree is. A thick ring shows a good year wherein the tree grows a lot. A thin ring shows a bad year and here the tree does not grow very much. Maybe it is very cold or dry.
So whenever you see a log, look at the end. Read the rings . They tell the story of the life of the tree.
